Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

  • Domestic learners aged 18 and over
  • Completion of NZ Certificate in Horticulture (Level 3) or equivalent
  • All applicants will be interviewed to consider the application for the enrolment. Acceptance will be determined at the discretion of the interviewer.
  • If wet weather or personal protective equipment is needed, it is the student’s responsibility to supply it.
  • There may be further restrictions when this course is offered under a Tertiary Education Commission Contract.

English Language Requirements

In line with NZQA requirements for international students, where English is not the applicant's first language, they will be required to provide evidence of their English language skills

Evidence that the student has:

  • Must have an IELTS level 5.5 (General or Academic) with no sub-score less than 5, or
  • Completion of the relevant New Zealand Certificate in English Language, or
  • Completion of accepted international equivalents.

Pathways

Education Pathway

This qualification may build on the New Zealand Certificate in Land Based Sustainability Practices (Level 3) [Ref: 2684], and may lead on to qualifications in agriculture or horticulture at Level 5 or above

Employement Pathway

Graduates of this qualification may be self-employed or employed as growers, farmers, land- based practitioners, environmental officers, compliance officers, farm effluent managers or Department of Conservation workers.

Scheduled classes

Compulsory attendance of 15 hours (full time) or 7.5 hours (part time*) per week at class on campus or demonstration site (as required)

*Part-Time Classes Break down

Week 1 Two evening classes of 3 hours each and Week 2 one evening class of 3 hours and one weekend class of hours. This pattern will repeat for the duration of the programme.
